Description

Jin Se — The Brocade Zither
A dress woven, not printed. Fortune repeated across every inch.
Some dresses are decorated. This one is made of the decoration itself — the pattern isn't added on top of the fabric, it is the fabric. Woven into the red ground with a fine gold weft, medallions repeat in a quiet geometric rhythm from collar to hem, catching light as you move. Up close you can see the individual threads sit at different heights: that surface relief cannot be printed, and it's the first thing people notice.
✦ Design details
- All-over woven brocade — medallion motifs on a red ground, with gold and multicolour threads woven in, not printed. Colour and pattern come from the loom, so they won't fade or crack the way a print can.
- Classic stand collar, short sleeves, slim midi cut — the most traditional cheongsam silhouette, tailored close through the waist and hip.
- Twin pom-pom blossom buttons at the collar — soft fabric blossoms hand-shaped around a knot, a detail borrowed from vintage Shanghai dressmaking.
- Pearl-buttoned placket with a deep wine-red piping running from sleeve to hem — a subtle tonal edge that gives the red depth instead of flatness.
- Fully made to measure — order in your own measurements or a standard size.
✦ Where it belongs
A traditional Chinese wedding, the tea ceremony, the homecoming banquet, a family celebration, Lunar New Year — anywhere the occasion itself is the point. Red is the colour of good fortune in Chinese culture, and a woven brocade red reads as heirloom rather than costume.
